Bigger and Better!

To raise funds for Invisible Children, our student ministry, E-life, played a fun game called Bigger and Better. Brian got this idea in college and tweaked it a little bit to help raise awareness and money for children of war in Uganda. Our youth started out with items such as a box of crayons, hand sanitizer, plastic fireman hats, etc and went door to door in the community within a 30 minute time frame to trade for bigger and better items. At each home, you trade what you received previously for something bigger and better. The plan is to then take pics and sell all the items on E-bay. The youth get to set the starting price and track throughout the coming weeks the items they put up for sale. We split up into several groups and off we went. People were so generous and God provided! We were very surprised at what we were able to accomplish in such a short amount of time. Some of the items we received were: 3 computer monitors(1 was not even opened), a stereo, a karoke machine, a robotic techie dog, some cash donations, a T.V., several game cube and playstation games, 2 limited edition Hallmark giant teddy bears, a Minolta 35mm camera, a new electric back massager, a yankee candle with candle crockpot, a flute, a big red dog, a digital camera, an unopened Simpsons Jeopardy game, a game boy advance, and a few others I can't remember right now. We also have some people dropping off some items tomorrow. How amazing is that? All of this within a 30 minute time frame! (each for Jr. High and Sr. High) We were thrilled. We will be able to raise a lot of money for the invisible children! We were also able to hand out flyers at each house explaining the movement! We are so grateful. What a fun, creative way to make a difference in lives of children living in poverty. As Americans, we are blessed with so much "stuff" What a honor it is to give our "stuff" away to bless others in need. Check out www.invisiblechildren.com to find out how you can support this effort! If you are interested in any of the items you see, let us know and we can let you know when and where it is on E-bay.

I think doing one wall in a color you like is a good idea and the rest
in something more neutral. That will give you impact, but not too much
in case you or Brian don't like it. Our house is a hopsack brown from
Sherwin or Porter (can;t remember) and we love it. It's not that open
either, but seems to work. We have had many comment on it, how they
like it. I think red and the taupe/brown go together. That sounds pretty
to do the green. You could paint boards and take them around with you
to look at them. The great thing about paint is...if you don't like
it, repaint:) It's not permanent.
Oh yeah, I will try to send some holiday catalogs soon,,,, so sorry.
I have been waiting for them to mail them to me and just got them...

I like to do an advent wreath as well. We did that last year. Each night at dinner we read some scripture and lit a tea lite candle and the purple or pink ones, adding a tea lite each night until Christmas morning when all of them were lit. It was really cool & Caleb liked it a lot as well.
